Free Toddler Cardigan Knitting Pattern

Here we are again with a beautiful children’s cardigan pattern. I haven’t shared for a long time because I was on holiday, the holiday is over and I can continue my shares from where I left off.

Suitable for children aged 1-2, this lovely cardigan pattern is a free knitting pattern as usual and is found in the Nako Yarns archive. It is a classic cardigan with 5 buttons and an oval collar. But the motifs on it may force you a bit. The free toddler comes with some instructions and schemes in the cardigan pattern. This will make your job a little easier.

How to knit toddler cardigan:

BACK SIDE:

Instructions For back pieces of toddler cardigan. It is cast on 72 stitches with yarn color no.3391. Work as follows: rib 2×2 for 5 cm, working 4 rows with yarn color no.3391, 2 rows with yarn color no.1199, 4 rows with yarn color no.3391; knit for 2 cm with yarn color no.31373; apply diagram no.2 with yarn color no.3391. Change to yarn color no.31373 and continue with knit stitch. Knit body for 21 cm. While casting off 1 stitch 23 times at both sides for the armhole, apply diagram no.1 with yarn color no.3391 on the same row. When the body measures 33 cm,  cast off remaining 26 stitches together and bind off.

FRONT SIDE:

Cast on 36 stitches. Apply the color order on the back body in the same way. Knit the body for 21 cm. Cast off 1 stitch at one side 23 times for the armhole. When the body measures for 27 cm, cast off 5+3+2+1+1+1 stitches in the front middle part for the neck. When the body measures 33 cm, finish off the stitches. Knit the other front piece in the same way.

SLEEVES:

Cast on 44 stitches. The color order in the bodies is applied in the same way. After ribbing, increase 1 stitch at both sides 4 times spacing 10 rows and reach to 52 stitches. When the body measures 20 cm, cast off 1 stitch at both sides 23 times for the armhole. When the sleeve measures 35 cm, cast off remaining 6 stitches together and bind off. Knit the other sleeve in the same way.

NECK:

Pick up 108 stitches around the neck with yarn color no.3391. Rib 2×2 for 3 cm, working 4 rows with yarn color no.3391, 2 rows with yarn color no.1199 and 4 rows with yarn color no.3391. Cast off stitches together and finish off. Open 1 button holes on the left side.

FRONT BINDING:

Pick up 88 stitches along the front middle part working 4 rows with yarn color no.3391. Rib 2×2 for 3 cm, working 4 rows with yarn color no.3391, 2 rows with yarn color no.1199 and 4 rows with yarn color no.3391. Cast off stitches together and finish off. Open 4 buttonholes spacing 5 cm on the left side.
